On december 2025, the first SOILPROM stakeholder workshop, jointly with the Path4Med project took place in Ås, Norway. The workshop was conducted surrounding the topic “Fra tap til tiltak – Sammen for felles løsninger for å redusere jord og næringsstofftap på Østlandet”, (in English is «From loss to action – Together for common solutions to reduce soil and nutrient losses in Eastern Norway »). The workshop brought together about 15 stakeholders from the public sector /government (Directorate of Agriculture, The State Administrator, Halden river basin sub district, Follo agricultural office, Frogn municipality), academia/research (Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research), private sector (Norwegian Agricultural Counseling, Aggrator company), and end-users / citizens (farmers).
During the workshop, both SOILPROM and Path4Med projects were introduced to the stakeholders and stakeholders’ needs were mapped using a Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) method. The CLD is a systems thinking method used to visualize complex, interconnected relationships and feedback mechanisms within a system.
The workshop identified the following inputs and contributions of stakeholders and their needs and expectations:
- There is a strong interest in sharing knowledge among stakeholder groups, and efforts should be made to improve knowledge accessibility to all stakeholder groups by adapting and targeting the communication of the knowledge.
- Farmers can contribute with their knowledge of production systems. They need knowledge from scientists about measures for improving soil health and reducing water pollution, financial support from governments for implementing measures, and technology from industry and consultants.
- The public sector / government can contribute with policies and financial supports for implementing measures. They need knowledge from scientists about effective measures for prioritizing the supports.
- Private sectors can contribute with technologies and assistance that can be used for implementing measures. They need favorable policies and financial supports from the government and requests of needs from the farmer.
- Educators and researchers can contribute with data-based knowledge generated from the nation and abroad about the effectiveness of measures. Educators play a key role in educating the next generation of farmers, advisors, researchers, and policymakers working in the agro-environmental systems. They need research and education-oriented funds from the government and cooperation of farmers and other stakeholders in their work.
