From 8–12 October 2025, the city of Seville (Spain) hosted the VII EUROSOIL Congress & X Congreso Ibérico de la Ciencia del Suelo, bringing together researchers from across Europe to exchange the latest advances in soil science. During this major event, the SOILPROM project team from the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) presented a poster titled: “Assessing metal transport in the mining district of La Unión–Sierra de Cartagena (SE Spain): a use-case of the SOILPROM project.”

The presentation within the GT05: Soil Hydrology & Erosion session, focused on the objectives and methodological framework of the SOILPROM Spanish use-case, which investigates hydrological and aeolian metal transport processes in a Mediterranean semiarid mining district.

The poster outlined:

  • The objectives and methodological framework of the SOILPROM use-case.
  • Ongoing fieldwork activities and planned sediment and dust monitoring campaigns.
  • The application of modelling tools such as OpenLISEM and MicroHH to simulate surface runoff, erosion, and metal dispersion pathways.

Presenting at EUROSOIL 2025 provided an excellent opportunity to:

  • Share methodologies and expected results from the Spanish case study.
  • Foster collaboration with experts in soil pollution, erosion control, and land restoration.
